This position provides senior-level direction over the policies and goals for the organization's pharmacy services. The incumbent maintains contact with other department heads, medical staff, and nursing staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes and promote effective drug therapy. As a senior director, the incumbent will be responsible for many organizational units across several entities of the organization with a greater emphasis on strategy and goal development, execution of performance improvement program, and improving financial performance.

This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to State Law.


  • Guides multiple areas or divisions in mission, vision, and values, across several entities. Provides input into the department strategy and planning.
  • Operationalizes the strategy in alignment with the organization goals and strategy. Demonstrates forward thinking in developing strategy and goals.
  • Responsible for accomplishing organizational and department goals for assigned units. Plans and implements projects to improve performance and standardize processes across assigned entities, while measuring the impact of improvement.
  • Demonstrates innovation and creativity in accomplishing responsibilities, as well as strong project management and team leadership skills. - Clarifies and develops organizational and department policies and procedures in alignment with the organizational policies. Strives for standardization across entities as applicable, to improve clinical and operational efficiencies.
  • Has overall financial responsibility for the labor and operations of assigned areas. Manages the financial interdependencies within the department.
  • Accountable for the accurate reporting of time and attendance of direct reports. Plans for improved operational performance of assigned areas.
  • Responsible for the training and education of staff, including annual compliance and licensing or certification. Conducts employee evaluations, coaching and disciplinary processes to align employee performance and behaviors.
  • Develops succession plans for leadership positions within the department. Assists in the programmatic planning of department training programs. Mentors other leaders in the department and plans for leadership development. Plans for rotational experiences and schedules students and residents. May serve as residency program director or coordinator. Precepts residents and students as assigned. Serves as a role model as a leader and preceptor.
  • Networks and builds relationships within the organization and with outside similar organizations. Serves effectively on department committees and interdisciplinary committees as well as College of Pharmacy and Heath Sciences committees. Contributes to the profession through national leadership positions, presentations and publications.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
  • Demonstrated leadership, human relations, and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to determine the appropriate staff mixes to support patient and customer needs.
  • Knowledge of hospital business operations and demonstrated strategic planning skills.
  • Knowledge of budgeting practices, reporting analysis, and forecasting.
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, service orientation, and organizational skills.




  • Advanced degree (PharmD or MS) or equivalent clinical practice experience.
  • Seven years of progressive management experience with a track record for results oriented performance.

Licenses Required

  • Current Pharmacist license in the State of Utah (Obtain within 90 days of starting residency)
  • Current licensure to dispense controlled substances in the State of Utah.

Qualifications (Preferred)


  • Master’s degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, or related area.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • This is a sedentary position in an office setting that may exert up to 10 pounds and may lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. This position involves sitting most of the time and is not exposed to adverse environment.
