Overview: This position reports to the Director of Planning,  Design & Construction and works closely with Senior Executive Leadership in directing facilities planning and design within the University Health system. The successful candidate will display a deep understanding of architectural design, healthcare programming and planning, healthcare furniture and equipment, construction processes, building codes, building materials, and managing and leading teams. This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

Talent Management

  • Hiring, training, developing, and communicating with staff.

Financial Management

  • Responsible for developing, monitoring and achieving budget goals.
  • Manages labor and non-labor expenses to budget or flex budget.
  • Manages revenue to budget to maximize potential revenue.


  • Responsible for patient satisfaction scores within assigned area(s).
  • Responsible for upholding PROMISE standards of direct reports and team members.


  • Responsible to achieve quality goals for assigned area(s).
  • Manages and promotes continuous process improvements in assigned area(s).

Performance Management

  • Responsible to provide staff feedback on performance, including on-time appraisals and coaching.
  • Responsible to deal with conflicts in a proactive manner and to reach resolution in a timely manner.

Building Relationships

  • Forms positive relationships with staff, peers, and senior leadership to support the mission, vision, values, and performance standards of the organization.
  • Actively engages staff with updates and news as well as involving staff in decisions and work teams. Provides feedback and recognition when appropriate.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in planning, and directing employees and processes, in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates, to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
  • Knowledge of assigned department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors.




  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area of assignment, or equivalency.
  • Four years of more progressively responsible management experience.

Qualifications (Preferred)


  • Master’s degree in architecture.
  • Licensed Architect
  • Project management experience.
  • ACHA certification.
  • LEED accreditation.
  • EDAC certification.
  • Familiarity with State building codes and Department of Health regulation.
  • Thorough knowledge of guidelines for design and construction of Healthcare Facilities, FFPA, CMMS/JCH/DNV accreditation guidelines.
  • Program experience in the usage of Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Basic rendering and publishing programs, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience in the preparation of reports and information using Microsoft Office software.
  • Knowledge of the functional and spatial requirements of various healthcare departments and services.
  • Professional track record of establishing long lasting relationships with clients.
  • Forward thinking and ability to articulate clear vision and understanding of trends in healthcare design.
  • Benchmarking design and plans within the University Health system and national leaders in Healthcare.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to develop relationships and maintain effective networks and be result-focused with a tempered and team-centered approach.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with internal architectural and engineering team members is required.
  • Possess an analytical approach with high-level problem-solving ability.
