    This position is responsible for cleaning and disinfecting, receiving, distributing, and maintaining the inventory of patient care supplies and equipment and maintaining the specialty carts.

    This position is not responsible for providing care to patients.

    This position may be required to transport medications within their scope of practice and according to State Law.

    Responsibilities

    • Prepares instruments and equipment to be cleaned and disinfected and distributes to departments, labs and clinics.
    • Cleans and disinfects instruments and equipment and checks biologicals.
    • Maintains inventory; orders and stocks supplies.
    • Manages department requests for Central Service supplies and schedules and tracks equipment use.
    • Documents patient charges for equipment use and cart supplies.
    • Ensures that safety inspections, calibrations and preventive maintenance are completed prior to scheduled expiration dates.
    • Assists in training new employees and Central Service Aides.

    • Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of equipment cleaning and disinfecting techniques.
    • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
    • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Required

    • At least two years experience as a Central Processing Technician, experience in a healthcare setting (to include housekeeping within a hospital setting), or equivalency.

    Qualifications (Preferred)

    Preferred

    • Successful completion of the IAHCSMM Technician Training course or equivalency.

    Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

    • This position involves intermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting that may exert up to 50 pounds any may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects. The incumbent may face exposure to potentially dangerous contaminated body fluids, used needles, razor blades, knives, bone shavings, pieces of glass, and other contaminants as part of the daily hazards of the job and must wear protective attire at all times.
