    This position is being created to manage and execute the Workforce Program for the University of Utah Health Regional Network (Regional Network). Responsibilities include: Nurse Traveler Team Management, Recruitment Sourcing Operations, Nurse Career Development, and Extranet Oversight and Maintenance.

    Department Overview

    The successful candidate will be hired as a University of Utah Health employee reporting to leadership in the Office of Network Development and Telehealth, and be ultimately responsible to the University of Utah Health Regional Network, LLC Board of Directors. The Regional Network is comprised of eight members across four states. The successful candidate will be working with Human Resource heads and Chief Nursing Officer levels from each member.

    • Understand small and rural hospital staffing challenges; build and maintain strong personal relationships with Regional Network participants
    • Focus on Human Resources staffing function to include both sourcing and retention of nursing personnel
    • Work with Regional Members to build a standard, coordinated recruitment and nurse development and retention program
    • Understand personnel supply sources within the Regional Network geographic area, nationally, and globally; consider other sourcing options including traveler brokerage firms
    • Develop relationships with regional suppliers of clinical, allied, and business-trained recruits; these can be medical schools, nursing schools, trade-schools, community colleges, and others, to develop pipelines of educated individuals to work within the Regional Network.
    • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
    • Execute talent acquisition strategy for harder to recruit positions (with nurses as the top priority) to augment Regional Network member Human Resources divisions
    • Identify and assist members to adopt best practices in retention and career development strategies and programs. Where possible develop programs and strategies that are applied across all LLC members and tailor methods to the unique needs of individual members.
    • Maintain a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information, responding to requests, building rapport, and participating in team problem-solving methods
    • Ensure current open positions page is continually up to date with recruiting/sourcing, retention and nurse development program information
    • Continually monitor for initial communications for traveler team nurse requests from Regional Network sites and leadership opportunity requests and respond in timely manner
    • Achieve financial objectives by preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions
    • Work with Regional Network member quality teams to coordinate quality initiatives and track quality measurements related to Workforce Program functions and activities
    • Develop measuring objectives to confirm positive direction or needed course change directly related to retention and nurse development program
    • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies Potentially build and maintain a regional nurse traveler team to be initially ten or less than ten employees
    • Maintain nursing staff by sourcing nurses to Regional Networks organizations who are then responsible for selecting, orienting, and training nurses and auxiliary staff
    • Partner with the Regional Nurse Advisory Council to determine action plan for career development
    • Market opportunities to nursing and administrative staff of Regional Network organizations
    • Establish general relationships with universities, colleges and other traditional vehicles to source candidates
    • Builds strategic, strong relationships with national and international sources not generally accessed by Regional Network members

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

    • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
    • Demonstrated nursing operations background
    • Ability to perform the KPI’s of the job as outlined above
    • Demonstrated leadership, human relations, and effective communication skills
    • Enthusiasm to build a program from ground floor




    • Nursing operations experience.

    Licenses Required

    • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
