    This position performs radiation therapy and radiographic procedures involving the application of X-rays and radioactive substances to patients. The incumbent operates specialized X-ray equipment as prescribed by the physician, keeps treatment records and prepares operational reports as required. This position is responsible for maintaining, storing and ordering supplies and equipment.

    This position also applies ionizing radiation to patients in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist.

    Responsibilities

    • Performs radiation therapy treatments.
    • Explains treatment procedures to patients.
    • Prepares the treatment room and equipment, transfers patients to treatment area, and positions patients for treatment.
    • Checks daily treatment parameters, delivers the prescribed dosage, and maintains treatment records.
    • Photographs patients in the treatment position and observes patients for unusual skin reactions.
    • Calculates radiation dosage for new patients, changes in treatment ports, or changes of dosage.
    • Performs tumor localization.
    • Maintains supplies for the treatment room.
    • Schedules patients for treatment on treatment machines.

    • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
    • Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.
    • Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
    • In accordance with departmental procedures and generally accepted Dosimetry practices, ability to independently determine and calculate computerized isodose plans for radiation oncology patients.
    • Ability to ascertain if building beam modifying devices need adjustment and perform the necessary maintenance.
    • Ability to perform verification checks and apply quality assurance procedures to ensure accuracy of dose calculations.
    • The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
    • The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Current Radiation Therapist certification.

    Licenses Required

    • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through American Heart Association or obtain within one month of hire.
    • Current licensure to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in the State of Utah.
    • Credentialed in Radiation Therapy Technology by the American Registry of Radiology (ARRT).
    * Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.
