This position provides assistive care to patients while completing clinical training hours as part of a Medical Assistant training program. The incumbent learns to facilitate the efficient delivery of patient care, support the professional role of the licensed staff, and provide support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to the patient. Huntsman 4A Oncology Unit is a new medical and surgical oncology unit opening in January 2024. It is a 25 bed unit that will primarily care for solid-tumor patients for medical and post-op needs. It is the perfect unit for someone who is looking to work in the oncology setting with a large variety of patients including chemotherapy treatments, sepsis, post-surgical, symptom management related to treatment and cancer, new oncology diagnosis, end of life, and everything in between. It is a fast-paced unit that requires critical thinking and skills such as IV lines, central line care, post-op wound care, ostomy care, surgical drains, chest tubes, and foleys. It’s a great unit to build a foundation in nursing and to be a part of building a new unit.

This position assists the surgical team by acting in the role of the scrub person who handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgical procedures under the direct supervision of a qualified preceptor. The student maintains constant vigilance for the maintenance of the sterile field and assists with maintaining equipment and instruments. While completing clinical rotations, all student activities associated with the Surgical Technology college curriculum will be educational in nature. Surgical Tech student employees are in a "learning role" and will not be substituted for a trained employee within the clinical institution in the capacity of a competent surgical technologist.
