This position assists the surgical team by acting in the role of the scrub person who handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgical procedures under the direct supervision of a qualified preceptor. The student maintains constant vigilance for the maintenance of the sterile field and assists with maintaining equipment and instruments. While completing clinical rotations, all student activities associated with the Surgical Technology college curriculum will be educational in nature. Surgical Tech student employees are in a "learning role" and will not be substituted for a trained employee within the clinical institution in the capacity of a competent surgical technologist.

This position has the responsibility of performing routine electrocardiography procedures throughout the hospital. The incumbent will also provide Holter Monitor hook-ups as needed for patients. Under the oversight of a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (L.C.S.W.) this position provides psychological and social support to patients and families and may be responsible for integrating counseling services with overall patient care. The Social Worker assists patients in meeting their psychosocial needs whether it be, the supervised practice of mental health therapy or facilitating patient adjustment in treatment, hospitalization or transition into the community after therapy.

Our L&D unit is staffed by OB residents day and night. They are an integral part of our team and work very closely with the nurses to take exceptional care of our patients. We deliver between 400-450 babies a month here at University of Utah Hospital.
Our patients range from low risk midwifery patients to high risk maternal fetal medicine patients. We have 17 labor rooms in which we labor, deliver, and recover our patients. We also have three operating rooms. Our goal is to staff our unit day and night with 9 nurses, 3 L&D techs, and 1 health unit admission coordinator (HUAC). The nurse to patient ratio is 1:2 or 1:1.

This position is used by Labor and Delivery Only.
This position is responsible for a variety of functions during the Labor and Delivery Admission Process. The incumbent completes patient interviews in order to accurately identify patients, collect demographics and insurance information. The position routinely works with clinicians and physicians.
This position is not responsible for providing care to patients.

A Hospital Crisis Response Worker, working in hospital based crisis setting as part of the Utah Statewide crisis response system, will assess individuals experiencing a self-defined crisis situation, leading to appropriate crisis stabilization and making appropriate referrals. A Crisis Worker may perform screening and triage, psycho-social support, and connection to appropriate resources. Services also include collaboration with local mental health authorities in the state of Utah.
