    This position responds to and resolves staff and visitor meal requests made to order in a cafeteria and/or catering type setting. The position involves good communication skills, listening to customer’s orders, preparing food to the requested order, taking and giving monies, cleaning and stocking of work stations.

    Catering Job Description

    • Ensuring exemplary guest service during events and through all forms of banquet service, including: buffets, plated, carving stations, running food, replenishing product and supplies in accordance with event standards.
    • Ensuring that events are properly equipped and executed by pulling, transporting, setting up and breaking down, and returning equipment to designated storages in accordance to event standards and the event instructions.
    • Independent problem solving


    • Performing side work helping to provide a clean and safe work environment in all catering areas.
    • Cleaning, organizing, and restocking product/equipment returning from catering events.
    • Performing other duties as assigned.

    To perform the role of a Catering Server successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    • Consistent attendance and punctuality is a job requirement.
    • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
    • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.





    • Six months of food service, customer service, or equivalency.
    • Current food service worker’s permit within one month of hire.

    Licenses Required

    • One of the following
      • Current Utah Food Handler Permit issued through Salt Lake County or Davis County Health Department. Some Departments may allow for 30 days to obtain certification upon hire, otherwise, it is due at time of hire. Please refer to your department for specific requirements.
      • Current Food Protection Manager Certification accredited through ANSI. Please note that in the State of Utah, Food Protection Manager Certifications are valid for 3 years from date of issuance.

    Working Conditions and Physical Demands

    Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

    • This position involves intermediate working conditions in a high volume healthcare setting that may exert up to 50 pounds and constantly require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving carts or displays to restock.
    • This person may be subject to chemical and equipment hazards and is standing and walking for a sustained periods of time.
    • Incumbents may be also face exposure to potentially dangerous cleaning chemicals used for sanitation, as well as equipment and supply hazards such as wet or hot work surfaces and sharp edges on food wrap containers or open cans, meat slicers, and food processers.
    • Incumbents are frequently required to talk or hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and taste or smell.
