    The Chaplain in this position provides pastoral, spiritual and ecumenical care and support to patients, their families and staff.

    Responsibilities

    • Assesses if living donor has ability and understanding to consent to donation.
    • Providing spiritual and religious care to patient and family within the assessment period, pre-surgery and post-surgery.
    • Advocating for the donor within the transplant selection process. 
    • Meets with direct patient care staff prior to visiting with patient and family to understand scope of needs and how to support multi-disciplinary treatment team  
    • Function as needed as part of the spiritual care team in the following responsibilities: 
      • Responds to calls from units regarding spiritual and pastoral needs for patients and family.
      • Establishes and nurtures outside networks of members of the religious community to ensure specific spiritual and emotional needs of patients are addressed by appropriate ecclesiastical persons.
      • Organizes and promotes religious services for patients, their families and staff.
      • Provides orientation to community clergy, volunteers and staff relating to services available by pastoral care staff.

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

    • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
    • Ability to adhere to separation of church and state requirements as addressed in the Utah State Code.
    • Demonstrated respect and support for individual faith groups.
    • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

    Qualifications

    • Candidate must be eligible for or possess BCCI Certification through the Association of Professional Chaplains or certification through NAJC or NACC.
    • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish.

    • Walking in and out of patient rooms and service areas including the emergency department, intensive care units, procedural areas, and acute care areas.
