This position is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound exams which aid radiologists and providers in their diagnosis and/or treatment of patients. This position is also responsible for assisting providers in various ultrasound-guided procedures. This position provides direct patient care and may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the appropriate exam is performed based on physician's orders and patient history.
  • Verifies and enters/selects patient demographics.
  • Provides accurate and consistent patient education and explanation of exam.
  • Performs ultrasound examinations, tailoring exams based upon findings and most likely diagnosis.
  • Updates patient logs and submit billing.
  • Ensures operation of equipment and coordinates necessary maintenance.
  • Assists with training of student sonographers, residents, and fellows.
  • Assists physicians with invasive procedures.

  • Ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above.
  • Ability to provide care to the population served.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

Required

  • ARDMS registry eligibility.
  • In addition to the required RQI certification, the incumbent must be able to obtain at least one of the indicated certifications within 6 months of entry into the position.

Licenses Required

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • One of the following
    • Current certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with an Abdomen specialty (RDMS-AB) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
    • Current certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with an OB/GYN specialty (OB/GYN) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
    • Current ARRT Registration for Sonography (S).
* Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.
