This position performs nerve conduction studies and autonomic testing, assists with muscle biopsies and in the training of residents and fellows concerning nerve and autonomic conduction techniques. This position provides direct patient care and may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the training of residents and fellows concerning nerve conduction techniques.
  • Performs nerve conduction through clinical, research, and portable methods.
  • Performs medial and lateral antebrachial cutaneous, superficial peroneal/fibular, plantar, repetitive stimulation of upper extremity nerves, facial and blink reflexes and other nerve conductions as applicable.
  • Ensures that EMG and nerve conduction study supplies are available.
  • Ensures that the lab area is kept clean and stocked with supplies.
  • Maintains records on and calibrates EMG equipment.
  • May perform patient billing and scheduling duties.
  • May perform other duties, as assigned.

  • Ability to provide care that is appropriate to the population served.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in a biological science, a related area, or the equivalency.
  • Ability to sit for the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologist (AAET) or American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) certification examinations within two years of employment.

Licenses Required

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
