This position provides adapted sports opportunities to former patients and others in the communities with complex disabilities. Position is responsible for providing support and assistance with the overall administration and development of the adapted sports program.

Responsibilities

  • Physically assisting individuals with complex physical disabilities in year round and seasonal sports opportunities. This includes physically lifting people.
  • Teach individuals how to use adapted sports equipment including cycling, skiing, kayaking, paddle board, sailing lessons.
  • Maintain equipment in safe working order.
  • Transport equipment and trailers to and from sporting events.
  • Set up program sessions: equipment, accessories, tents, awnings and hydrations stations.
  • Clean up equipment , accessories and all session gear after each session use.
  • Schedule appointments for sports sessions.
  • Other projects as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
  • Demonstrated computer skills.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
  • Ability to work independently while performing non-patient care activities such as cleaning, equipment set-up, etc. and the practice of ambulation or a personal exercise program that are not of a skilled level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or work equivalency.

Licenses Required

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
* Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

 

  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with scheduling software.
  • Experience with adapted sports programs 
  • Ski instructing
  • Water sports instruction

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

  • This position involves intermediate work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving patients or objects, such as sports equipment while providing patient care.
