This position is responsible for preparing financial reports, conducting special projects, and providing financial analysis to all levels of management.

  • Work closely with department managers and directors as financial liaison.
  • Prepare Power Point presentations and clearly communicate financial outcomes to operational leaders.
  • Volume reporting and analysis.
  • Basic understanding of SQL.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and interprets management information and other financial reports.
  • Analyzes financial documents, statistical data, historical data, and presents to and interprets for management.
  • Participates in the establishment and maintenance of cost accounting systems.
  • Audits accounting systems, reconciles data, and resolves technical problems or recommends solutions when appropriate.
  • Analyzes trends and possible consequences.
  • Recommends and implements improvements that affect accounting systems and departmental operations.
  • May prepare and monitor departmental budget.
  • May provide training on financial issues or procedures or provide guidance to more junior staff.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
  • Thorough knowledge of established accounting principles and practices.
  • Spreadsheet and database skills.
  • Knowledge of statistics and demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Effective communication and human relation skills.
  • Ability to independently determine the type and nature of analysis to be used to obtain the desired information or results, including data to be collected, analysis methods, presentation, and format and report structure.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects, determining the best course of action or appropriate resources needed to complete a project or address a problem, obtain valid data, and create clear and understandable reports that reflect the data being sought.
  • The Financial Analyst must correctly interpret regulations to ensure the University is in compliance with Federal, State and other requirements.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, a related field, or the equivalency.
  • Two years of related experience, or equivalency.
  • Depending upon department of hire, a valid, State of Utah Driver's License may be required.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • Familiarity with hospital financial reporting and billing systems, Medicare and insurance reimbursement regulations, etc.
  • Revenue cycle knowledge and experience.
  • Comfortable presenting to varying groups.
  • Advanced degree, such as a Master's degree in Business Administration.
