The Release Train Engineer (RTE) is responsible for managing and optimizing the flow of value through an Agile Release Train (ART) using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). The RTE will lead an ART focused on ambulatory and inpatient care, coordinating work involving Epic Systems and related applications. This position requires strong facilitation, coaching, and collaboration skills to guide teams in executing ART processes, removing impediments, managing risks, and driving continuous improvement. This position will work closely with ART leadership, teams, and stakeholders to align with organizational goals and the Digital Roadmap, with opportunities for growth as SAFe practices evolve. This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates PI (Planning Interval) Planning, including agenda preparation, securing facilities, and aligning speakers. Serves as Lead Facilitator during Scrum of Scrums to ensure teams collaborate effectively.
  • Leads ART ceremonies such as Scrum of Scrums, PI Planning, System Demos, and Inspect and Adapt workshops to promote continuous improvement and alignment.
  • Identifies and escalates impediments, manages risks, and facilitates problem-solving to ensure delivery of high-value outcomes.
  • Collaborates with ART leadership, teams, and stakeholders to align ART objectives with business strategy and the Digital Roadmap. Leads prioritization sessions to ensure the organization focuses on high-value work.
  • Manages dependencies across teams within the ART, ensuring collaboration among IT Services, operations, and clinical teams to support cohesive execution.
  • Instructs Team Coaches/Scrum Masters and teams on SAFe practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and agile transformation.
  • Tracks ART performance, ensuring alignment with key performance indicators (KPIs) and business goals.
  • Leads Inspect and Adapt sessions to identify areas for process improvement and implement changes to enhance ART performance.
  • Develops and promotes clear, documented processes for ART activities and ensures accurate tracking of metrics through agile tools like the ServiceNow SAFe Module.
  • Coordinates the scrum process from initiation through delivery, ensuring value delivery in the shortest time. Serves as a liaison between the product owner, development team, and management to meet targets and requirements.
  • Facilitates execution of Agile practices, ensuring team members understand project objectives and promoting cross-functional accountability and iterative progress.
  • Maintains the product backlog and release plan, facilitating meetings and removing impediments to support sprint goals.
  • Ensures the team can rapidly respond to changes in the environment or business needs.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven experience leading ARTs or large agile teams, delivering business value through process improvements and team empowerment.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate agile events such as PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums, and Inspect and Adapt workshops.
  • Experience managing dependencies across teams and stakeholders in complex environments.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to coach teams, remove impediments, and influence leaders.
  • Ability to navigate governance and operational challenges in complex, regulated environments.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalency.
  • Five (5) years of related experience, including hands-on experience with Agile Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira, Rally).

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • Prior experience as a Release Train Engineer in a SAFe environment.
  • SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE), SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), or other SAFe certifications.
  • Experience in healthcare or similarly complex, regulated environments.
  • Proven track record in digital transformation initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Epic Systems, ServiceNow SAFe Module, or other enterprise IT platforms.
