Huntsman 4A Oncology Unit is a new medical and surgical oncology unit opening in January 2024. It is a 25 bed unit that will primarily care for solid-tumor patients for medical and post-op needs. It is the perfect unit for someone who is looking to work in the oncology setting with a large variety of patients including chemotherapy treatments, sepsis, post-surgical, symptom management related to treatment and cancer, new oncology diagnosis, end of life, and everything in between. It is a fast-paced unit that requires critical thinking and skills such as IV lines, central line care, post-op wound care, ostomy care, surgical drains, chest tubes, and foleys. It’s a great unit to build a foundation in nursing and to be a part of building a new unit.

All newly hired RNs in this position will attend a weekly Transition to Practice (TTP) Program that coincides with their onboarding. This program instructs staff on policies, procedures, skills and best practices at the University of Utah Hospital and Clinics (UUHC). New RNs (with less than 1-year of applicable nursing work experience) will also be automatically enrolled in the UUHC Nurse Residency Program. The Nurse Residency Program supports new RNs in their first year of practice through monthly trainings focused on growing in their confidence, clinical skills, leadership and professional development skills. Various tracks are offered to help develop new RN’s in their area of specialty such as: Oncology, Critical Care, Acute Care, Perioperative, Ambulatory, Women’s and Children’s, and Behavioral health. Qualifications

Licenses Required

• Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.

Preferred

• Some positions may require additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within one year of hire.
