Overview

This position has the responsibility of providing nursing services to both pediatric and adult patients in the department of Radiation Oncology at Huntsman Cancer Hospital. The procedural nurse will be involved in the coordination of care and services and the delivery of exceptional care to patients. This position requires strong organizational skills to assess patient status and needs, including but not limited to, coordination with other teams both on site and external. The nurse will obtain pre-procedure assessment on the patient, assist the attending MD with the procedure and will provide post procedure monitoring and care. This position may require providing medications as ordered within their scope of practice and according to state law.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, communicates, and develops nursing plan of care to address patient and family needs.
  • Updates and monitors nursing orders as needed based on changes in patient condition or plan of care.
  • Initiates provider orders as appropriate for patient condition based upon clinical judgement.
  • Conducts a pre-procedure assessment to determine appropriate patient procedure pathway in coordination with provider.
  • Coordinates patient scheduling based upon patient population and treatment plan.
  • Coordinates care between patient/family, nursing staff, MD’s, and outlying facilities.
  • Prepares patient and equipment for radiation therapy procedures.
  • May administer medication (IV or PO) to patient as directed by provider.
  • May perform circulating or scrub role functions during the procedure.
  • Supports provider team in airway management.
  • Monitors patient’s vital signs.
  • Provides post procedure recovery, care and education.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
  • Knowledge of electronic monitoring devices.
  • Demonstrated ability to function calmly and competently in high stress situations.
  • Ability to deal with hazards involved in assessing and providing care to patients.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider ALS eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The ALS eCredential is to be obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider PALS eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The PALS eCredential is to be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • One years of previous nursing experience.

Preferred

    • Two years of ICU/CCU experience in arrhythmia and hemodynamic monitoring of patients in an acute-care setting.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

  • This position involves intensive work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment, or patients while providing medical care. Workers in this position may be exposed to infectious diseases and may be required to function around prisoners or behavioral health patients.
