The incumbent supervises and coordinates daily operations, pharmacy programs and activities to include recruiting, hiring and scheduling staff, conducting performance evaluations, conflict resolution and program development. This position provides the essential functions of a Clinical Pharmacist.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning, Goal Development: Coordinates the work of an area in the department in mission, vision, and values. Drives the operation in alignment of goal and strategy of the department.
  • Execution, Policy Development and Implementation: Functions as an effective team member. Assists in the implementation of performance improvement projects and assists in collecting data to measure the effectiveness of interventions. Identifies opportunities for improvement and develops a plan to address the issues. Drives operations in alignment with policies and procedures. Identifies opportunities to revise policies as appropriate.
  • Financial: Schedules labor and equipment. Accountable for the accurate reporting of time and attendance of direct reports.
  • Human Resources - Hiring, Orienting, and Developing: Manages the hiring, orienting and development of staff.
  • Conducts employee evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary processes to align employee performance and behaviors. Responsible for the training and education of staff, including annual compliance and licensing or certification. Plans for rotational experiences and schedules students and residents. May serve as residency program director or coordinator. Precepts residents and students as assigned. Serves as a role model.
  • Collaboration, Relationship Building and Networking: Networks and builds relationships within the organization. Serves on department committees and some interdisciplinary committees.
  • Performs the essential functions of a clinical pharmacist.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to perform the essential function of the job as outlined in the position description.
  • Ability and willingness to train department trainees (eg students, residents, new staff).
  • Ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
  • Demonstrated authority to make personnel decisions including hiring, staffing, adapting schedules to departmental needs, and taking disciplinary actions where warranted.
  • Demonstrated the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required

  • Advanced degree (PharmD or MS) or equivalent clinical practice experience.
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, service orientation, and organizational skills.

Licenses Required

  • Current licensure to dispense controlled substances in the State of Utah.
  • Current Pharmacist license in the State of Utah.
* Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • Previous supervisor experience.
  • Health System Pharmacy administrative residency, Masters Degree in related area, or at least 1 year of practice experience preferred.
  • Previous supervisor experience.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

  • This position involves light work that may exert up to 20 pounds and may consistently require light work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects. This position involves standing for extended periods of time and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
