This position is PRN only. This position is responsible for designing and instructing group exercise routines to help cancer patients with therapeutic exercise regimens. This may include rowing, circuit training, Zumba, and other dance based classes, aerobic conditioning, strength training, yoga, active and passive stretching, balance and ambulation.

Responsibilities

  • Administers therapeutic exercises and other techniques designed to provide improved functional capacity, exercise tolerance, exercise endurance, muscle strength and endurance, and coordination to rehabilitating patient populations.
  • Assesses the extent of patient's abilities and limitations.
  • Provides hands-on instruction to students performing exercises by monitoring their movements to ensure their safety and to provide feedback as necessary in regards to proper technique and form.
  • Collaborates with the department manager and medical staff in data collection, statistical analysis, development and implementation of research projects.
  • Assists in arranging for patient follow-up and maintains correspondence with patients.

  • Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above.
  • Ability to instruct and guide various high risk populations simultaneously offering levels and modifications for orthopaedic injuries and various co-morbidities.
  • Ability to approach challenges in a creative, positive, and team-centered manner.
  • Ability to instruct others in specified exercise specialty.
  • Able to create group cohesion and provide motivation and enthusiasm.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the exercise modality and a background of relevance.
  • Ability to work with people of all physical abilities and be able to adapt the exercises due to medical concerns.
  • Ability to cooperate with other healthcare professionals.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communications skills.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required

  • Certification in specified exercise specialty, or equivalency.
  • Experience teaching novice to expert ability levels.
  • Two years of teaching experience.

Licenses Required

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
* Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • ACSM, NSCA or other NCCA accredited fitness certification.
  • Five or more years of teaching experience.
  • Bachelor's of science or Bachelor's of arts in a health related field.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

  • This position involves intensive work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment, or patients while providing exercise routine . Workers in this position may be exposed to infectious diseases and may be required to function around prisoners and behavioral health patients.
