Overview

We are seeking an experienced new leader to serve as a Director of Revenue Cycle Support Services at University of Utah Health, Hospitals and Clinics.

 

This position directs the planning, organizing, directing, and controlling all internal operations of assigned departments.  Duties include the planning and business objectives, budgetary information, human resource and financial management operations of assigned departments.

 

The incumbent acts as a catalyst between the department and its customers, and staff, to ensure continuity and quality of service and care.

 

This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

 

Qualified applicants must have completed:

  • Bachelor degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, or related area, or equivalency.
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive hospital patient accounting.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Master's degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, or related area.

  • Manages revenue to budget to maximize potential revenue.

  • Responsible for patient satisfaction scores within assigned area(s).
  • Responsible for upholding PROMISE standards of direct reports and team members.

  • Responsible to provide staff feedback on performance, including on-time appraisals and coaching.

  • Actively engages staff with updates and news as well as involving staff in decisions and work teams. Provides feedback and recognition when appropriate.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of State and Federal Laws related to health care billing and collection requirements.
  • High level of knowledge of governmental compliance rules and issues as it pertains to health care billing, collection and other reimbursement.
  • Detailed understanding of billing technical elements such as standard forms and data, coordination of benefit and third party liability billing and collection, electronic billing, data edit programs, and reimbursement methodologies such as DRGs, APDRGs, APCs, ASCs.
  • Strong financial knowledge in AR and reserve analysis, basic market analysis; staffing and financial reporting skills.
  • Functional understanding of health care operations and physician group practices.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated skill and prior experience in writing reports and making presentations of complex materials to a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work independently. Ability to unify and motivate teams to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Ability to resolve complex problems and influence acceptance and adherence to difficult policies, especially in team members that do not have a formal reporting relationship to this position.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems that affect the bill submission and collection process, regardless of whether the problem originates in an area under direct or indirect control.
  • Financial management skills, including the ability to financially analyze data for operations, budgeting, auditing, forecasting.
  • Ability to determine the appropriate staff mixes to support patient and customer needs.
  • Knowledge of hospital business operations and demonstrated strategic planning skills.
  • Knowledge of budgeting practices, reporting analysis, and forecasting.
