Overview

The Organizational Development (OD) Consultant serves as a strategic partner supporting the growth, performance, and alignment of individuals, teams, and departments within the hospitals and clinics system.

 

This role is responsible for designing and implementing data-informed, mission-aligned solutions that improve team effectiveness, advance leadership capability, and support organizational change efforts across clinical and operational environments.

 

The OD Consultant operates with moderate autonomy in designing and recommending interventions, subject to alignment with HR and organizational strategies.Working collaboratively with HR partners, Employee Relations, and other hospital leaders, the OD Consultant provides expertise in coaching, team development, performance management, training, change management, and succession planning.

 

The ideal candidate brings emotional intelligence, systems thinking, and a proactive mindset to help foster a culture of learning, accountability, and continuous improvement.

 

Qualified candidates must have completed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Organizational Development, Psychology, Human Resources, Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in OD, leadership development, coaching, or a related area.
  • Experience working in or consulting with complex, matrixed organizations; ability to build trust with a wide range of stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Organizational Development, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience in a healthcare or academic medical center setting.

Responsibilities

Coaching & Leadership Development

  • Provide targeted coaching to leaders and high-potential individuals to support performance, growth, and role transitions.
  • Integrate coaching strategies into broader OD solutions (e.g., during change efforts, performance improvement plans, or succession planning).

Organizational Development & Change Consulting

  • Lead and support team interventions, and departmental development initiatives that enhance effectiveness and culture.
  • Partner with leadership to advise, design, implement, and support change management strategies that align with strategic priorities and clinical/operational goals.
  • Partner closely with HR leaders to identify trends, concerns, and needs emerging across departments and translate those into OD strategies and interventions. May act as a bridge between HR and frontline teams to ensure consistent messaging, alignment, and follow-through.

Data-Driven Insight & Storytelling

  • Analyze and synthesize data from surveys, HR data, assessments, and performance metrics to uncover themes and guide interventions.
  • Use data to tell compelling, actionable stories that inform OD strategy and leadership decisions.
  • Measure the impact of OD interventions and adjust based on outcomes and stakeholder feedback.

Performance & Talent Strategy

  • Partner with HR and leadership to enhance performance management practices, including effective goal-setting, feedback, and development planning.
  • Support departments in using performance evaluation data to inform talent decisions and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Contribute to succession planning and talent development strategies that address future workforce needs and mission-critical roles.

Training & Capability Building

  • Design and facilitate learning experiences that address items such as professional development, skills based needs, emotional intelligence, and team cohesion.
  • Utilize adult learning theory, experiential learning, and behavior change techniques to support knowledge transfer and skill application.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Knowledge of employee training and development methodologies and ability to ensure that a target population has the knowledge and skills required to meet both tactical and strategic objectives.
  • Knowledge of Training and Development (T&D) functions and practices; ability to evaluate, follow, and lead T&D trends and directions within the organization.
  • Knowledge of and ability to design, implement and evaluate industry and organizational standards, procedures and policies relevant to staff training and development.
  • Knowledge of and ability to identify what people need to learn for successful individual and organizational performance.
  • Highly skilled in project managing large scale initiatives cutting across the entire organization and involving many stakeholders
  • Experienced with strategic project and change management/oversight with proven ability to lead and manage multiple assignments and stakeholders simultaneously
  • Knowledge of organizational development interventions such as process consultation, coaching, performance management, and appreciative inquiry
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize appropriate procedures, tools and techniques for developing a solution to stated training or organizational development needs.
  • Demonstrated competency in large group facilitation and project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct, interpret, analyze, and synthesize complex qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement innovative approaches.
