This position provides assistive foreign language interpretation, written translation and assists in education for non-English speaking customers, students or participants of the organization while completing interpretive training hours as part of the Interpreting training program. Challenges include accurately interpreting and communicating information in an unbiased, clear and concise manner with patients, families, healthcare staff and physicians. This position also assists with clerical functions as a multi-skilled auxiliary worker. All experience in this role is under the direct supervision of the Interpreter Services Department. Interpreter Apprentice employees are in a supervised learning role during training and will not replace a certified interpreter until they have completed certification and PRN hours, at which point they will be expected to work independently.”Once the incumbent passes the certification exam and is in good standing with the organization (i.e., no disciplinary actions involving HR in the past 12 months), they will be required to complete a total of 80 PRN hours over the course of a 90-day period. PRN hours must be completed in addition to the incumbent’s regularly scheduled hours in their primary position.
