This position is responsible for serving as a mentor, trainer, and senior technologist. This position will work closely with the department manager, medical director, and physicians within the neuromonitoring department to ensure both clinical and technical expertise within the respective neurodiagnostic area. This positions is responsible for providing direct patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Develops core clinical competencies in conjunction with the department medical director.
  • Creates, modifies, and implements lab trainings, protocols, and competency reviews.
  • Works closely with department manager, medical director, and physicians in daily function and operations of department.
  • Models and implements organizational policies and procedures.
  • Maintains lab equipment, institutes quality control procedures, troubleshoots malfunctions, and performs minor repairs.
  • Prepares and maintains the employee schedule.
  • Operates various non-invasive monitoring devices.
  • Sets up and calibrates necessary equipment, working with bio-med to troubleshoot and maintain equipment in the lab.
  • Prepares patients for testing by attaching monitoring devices and explains test procedures.
  • Reviews patient's records and/ or interviews patients to obtain additional information.
  • Records observations and analyzes test data to ensure appropriate data is collected.

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
  • Ability to provide care to the population served.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to educate and train other technologists.
  • Knowledge of alternate montages, protocols, and alternate equipment settings and their effects.
  • Ability to develop relationships with patients, guests, and coworkers.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient information is guarded and respected.
  • Ability to cover unfilled shifts.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required

  • Associate's degree in a related area, or equivalent experience.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the performance of neurodiagnostic studies in a patient care environment.
  • If hired as the EMU/LTM supervisor, must be CLTM eligible within 24 months of hire and completed within 36 months of hire.

Licenses Required

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • One of the following
    • Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (R. EEG T).
    • Certified Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM).
    • Registered Evoked Potential Technologist (R. EPT).
    • Certified Nerve Conduction Technologists through the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM)
    • Certification in Long Term Monitoring through the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET)
    • Registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist through the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET).

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

  • This position involves intensive work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment, or patients while providing medical care. Workers in this position may be exposed to infectious diseases and may be required to function around prisoners and behavioral health patients.
