  • The Space Planning Manager of the System Space Planning team provides strategic leadership, governance, and tracking of overall system and department spaces.
  • This role is accountable for ensuring consistent application of project management methodologies, aligning projects with organizational priorities, and delivering measurable business and clinical outcomes.
  • The Manager leads a team of space program managers while also directly supporting health care facility space planners and providing oversight for select high-impact planning initiatives.
  • Acting as both a strategic leader and a hands-on project manager, this role builds organizational project management maturity, fosters stakeholder engagement, and advances cross-functional initiatives critical to system-wide performance and growth.

Responsibilities

Talent Management & Capability Building

  • Recruits, develops, and mentors a high-performing team of space program managers.
  • Builds organizational project management capacity through training, coaching, and knowledge-sharing.
  • Cultivates a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Performance Metric Development & Monitoring:​

  • Oversees and supports Planning team's central project tracking efforts, project reports, and documentation structure.​
  • Assists Planners in maintaining project tracking performance measures, value adds, and KPIs. ​
  • Assists Planners and provides oversight of project schedules and workflows.
  • Assists Planners in developing and maintaining space planning guidelines, standards, and resources​

Space Program, Record & Tool Management:​

  • Works closely between HSC & Hosp & Clinic & Campus to align all space records and space tracking.​
  • Manages technical space planning documentation and methodologies. (Future and Historical Space Records, Space Assignments, Floor Plans, Consultant Documentation, and System Metrics) ​
  • Proficiency and / or ability to learn industry technical apps and manage their use.
  • Maintains and provides support for back-end technical app support​ and tool management. ​

Space Requests & Move Coordination:​

  • Continuously monitors and evaluates space requests.
  • Manages and communicates to ensure space agreements are being met. ​
  • Oversees and manages all aspects related to a successful realignment or transition of space.​
  • Support physical move coordination (IT, Movers, Furniture, Access, etc.).​
  • Tracks and Records Construction Projects and Project Records Updates​. ​

Space Metrics, Evaluation, and Utilization:​

  • Continuously supports and monitors an on-going space verification and utilization process. ​
  • Leads the review of departmental space allocation evaluations, utilization, and metric prioritization. ​
  • Maintains and develops the space data source for record tracking. ​
  • Generates building and lease data reports, floor plans, and space data requests.​

Space, Leases, and Project Cost Tracking:​

  • Works with Real Estate to access accurate lease data and costs. ​
  • Works closely with Construction Project Delivery and Facilities teams to track construction project costs metrics.​
  • Works closely with Cost Estimator to understand, forecast, document, and record space cost standards.​
  • Oversees and monitors move / space requests related expenses and budget.​

Ad Hoc: ​

  • Assists with Purchase Orders and supports consultants getting paid.​
  • Assists Planners in the communication of project plans to various stakeholders, including end users and external partners.​
  • Assists in tracking project approval paths and board dates.​
  • Assists in capital scoping efforts of maintaining the requisition tool, project organization, and process improvements.​
  • Prepare internal facing reports and presentations.​
  • Assist in overseeing and coordinating project submittals (Capital Request, Off-Cycles, Space Request). ​

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Demonstrated skill in organizational change management and stakeholder engagement at all levels.
  • Ability to balance strategic oversight with tactical project leadership.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with experience presenting to executive leadership and boards.
  • Capacity to coach and develop project management professionals.
  • Adaptability to manage shifting priorities in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Architecture or related field
  • Four years of progressively more responsible health care or health care facility related experience

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in an area related to the program, or equivalency
  • Experience with building information modeling (BIM), Autodesk products, Archibus, ArcGIS, or space analysis software.
