This position photographs patients using a variety of specially designed still and video cameras to document and monitor eye diseases and disorders in order to assist physicians with the diagnosis and treatment of eye pathologies. The incumbent supports the academic and teaching mission goals of the organization by providing imaging services for publications and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Performs clinical and research imaging.
  • Images the retina and anterior segment for the purpose of documenting, monitoring, and diagnosing a disease process or condition.
  • Imaging may include fluorescein and ICG angiography, stereo fundus imaging, anterior and posterior segment OCT, ERG, digital slit lamp biomicroscope and external facial photography.
  • Recognizes problems with equipment versus patient media opacities.
  • Utilizes special imaging digital fundus cameras, specific image capture software and manipulation software.
  • Performs routine maintenance and minor repair of all imaging equipment.
  • Maintains and orders an adequate inventory of supplies.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Demonstrated, basic knowledge of image manipulation software.
  • Ability to edit and transfer images from digital camera to the patient database.
  • Ability to maintain accurate patient records with WILLOW, AXIS, EPIC, and POWERCHART.
  • Ability to recognize and take stereoscopic images of the retina with fundus photography.
  • Knowledge of operating room protocol and attire.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalency.

Licenses Required

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

* Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • Experience as an Ophthalmic Photographer or Ophthalmic Technician.
  • Experience with digital manipulation software.
  • Experience with digital photography

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

  • This position involves intermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting that may exert up to 50 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving patients or objects, such as medical equipment, while providing patient care.  May also need to push wheelchairs and assist patients in standing up or sitting down.
