This position involves performing high-quality diagnostic breast ultrasound exams and assisting in ultrasound-guided procedures to support radiologists. This position provides direct patient care and may be required to access and prepare medications within their scope of practice and according to state law. It emphasizes compassionate patient care, technical excellence, and collaboration in a fast-paced academic medical setting.The focus is on delivering accurate breast ultrasound imaging while supporting a culture of care, quality, and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies and enters/selects patient demographics.
  • Accurately obtains and documents relevant patient history in EMR, seeking this information if not readily available.
  • Performs high-quality breast ultrasound exams obtaining images tailored for the indication per ACR/facility protocols and as directed by radiologists.
  • Assists with ultrasound-guided procedures.
  • Ensures diagnostic-quality imaging and performs quality assurance as needed.
  • Assists with obtaining or gathering imaging for ACR accreditation.
  • Maintains room setup and sterile techniques to prevent contamination.
  • Communicates imaging results to patients after radiologist has reviewed imaging and made diagnosis, when specifically directed by radiologist.
  • Assists with breast ultrasound training of medical students, radiology residents and fellows as well as student technologists/sonographers
  • Helps with clinical duties including inventory, cleanliness, and schedule coverage.
  • Ensures operation of equipment and rapidly escalates any concerns regarding equipment performance.

Qualifications

Licenses Required

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • One of the following
    • Current certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
    • Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists for Breast Sonography. R.T.(S)(BS)(ARRT)
* Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • If candidate qualifies for position through ARDMS certification, breast sonography specialty is preferred.
  • Three (3) years of experience in Breast Ultrasound.
