Overview

The Social Media & Digital Communications Intern provides hands-on support to the organization’s communications and digital engagement efforts. This internship is designed for an undergraduate student seeking exposure to healthcare communications, social media strategy, and content development within a large, integrated healthcare system.

 

Working under the guidance of a designated preceptor, the intern will assist in creating digital content, analyzing engagement metrics, and supporting storytelling initiatives that highlight organizational priorities and patient-centered experiences. This role offers the opportunity to build foundational skills in content creation, data analysis, and professional communication while gaining insight into healthcare operations.

 

This is a temporary, part-time internship (approximately 5 hours per week for three months). This position does not provide direct patient care.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

· Assists in the planning and execution of social media and digital content initiatives under the direction of a preceptor or supervisor.

· Creates and supports development of engaging content (e.g., short-form videos, images, and

written posts) aligned with organizational messaging and brand standards.

· Monitors social media channels and gathers basic performance data, including engagement,

reach, and audience trends.

· Supports analysis of social media metrics and prepares summaries to help inform content

improvements.

· Conducts basic research on healthcare communication trends and peer organizations to identify

best practices.

· Assists in preparing presentations, reports, and visual materials to communicate insights and

project updates.

· Participates in team meetings and may present project work or findings to internal stakeholders.

· Collaborates with cross-functional teams (e.g., marketing, communications) to support alignment

of messaging.

· Maintains awareness of emerging social media and digital communication trends.

· Performs other duties as assigned in support of communications and engagement initiatives.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

· Basic understanding of social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Facebook) and digital content trends. · Strong written and verbal communication skills. · Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and take direction from a supervisor or preceptor. · Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail. · Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines in a part-time capacity. · Interest in healthcare, communications, marketing, or digital media. · Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office or similar tools; exposure to content creation or analytics tools is a plus.

Qualifications

Required

· Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Communications, Marketing, Business or related field, or equivalent experience.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

· Prior coursework or experience in social media, marketing, or digital communications. · Experience creating content (e.g., class projects, student organizations, personal portfolio).

· This is a sedentary position in an office setting that may exert up to 10 pounds and may lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. This position involves sitting most of the time and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
