This position provides assistive care to patients. This position provides assistive care to patients while completing clinical training hours as part of a Medical Assistant training program. The incumbent learns to facilitate the efficient delivery of patient care, support the professional role of the licensed staff, and provide support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to the patient. This position also learns to assist with clerical functions as a multi-skilled auxiliary worker. All experiences in this role are to be under the direct supervision of current staff competent in the treatments performed and the population served.

The incumbent maintains high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and freedom from hazards and infections. This position has the authority to experience a certain degree of autonomy in simply "keeping up" an assigned area under their jurisdiction, making independent judgments on needed activities and projects. Incumbents may function as a team leader on specific assignments or activities involving personnel of the same job classification. Challenges encountered in this position include working around patients, visitors, and staff without causing any disruptions, working with patient care units and other departments with specialized cleaning needs and hazards, and determining if chemical spills are medical, infectious, or a routine spill and then the appropriate procedure to follow in disposing of the spill. This position is not responsible for providing patient care.

A Crisis Worker, working on the Utah Statewide CrisisLine telephonic system, will assess individuals experiencing a self-defined crisis situation, leading to appropriate crisis stabilization and making appropriate referrals. A Crisis Worker may perform screening and triage, psycho-social support, and connection to appropriate resources through call or text. Services also include collaboration with local mental health authorities in the state of Utah. As such, the Statewide CrisisLine operates as a 24/7 dispatch for Mobile Crisis Outreach Teams across the state of Utah.
